5 spd shift knob falling off

2000 9-5 Aero - wife's car. The wood Saab accessory shift knob (already installed on car when we bought it)has started to spin on the shaft and will come right off the shaft if you pull up (leather gaiter and all). I opened er up to have a look, but it looks like maybe it was just glued on ( no threads). Should I try gluing it back on? How are they supposed to be attached to the shaft?
I have searched here but only found topics about people have to hacksaw them off. Mine is falling off.
I need to fix it as it is sort of dangerous. Thanks
Brian
