You may be discouraged to hear what an actual Saab dealer charges for this service. My local dealer in the S.F. Bay area wants $566 for the 40,000 mile service on my 2002 Aero. Included in the service is oil and oil filter change (full synthetic), spark plug renewal, the usual gazillion checks (most of them visual) and they throw in a tire rotation. I've heard of other dealers charging as high as $700. While this may seem incredibly high, my dealer had a point. They charge $90 an hour (going rate around here) to do a lot of checks, and document them, that many owners do themselves (coolant level, auto trans level, etc.) and several that many owners don't do (remove the wheels and check brake lining) His advice: look over the list of items and choose only the items that you need the dealer to perform, and get a price for those only. You'll get a lot closer to a reasonable price. I'd get the oil change, the sparkplugs, and maybe the tire rotation and check the brakes if you cannot do that yourself. Or go see Anders if you live in L.A. (best advice)!
