Dave, do a search on here. There is a good writeup w/pics. My wife's 2000 9 5 alarm was wailing on a regular basis. Removed unit (behind US driver side front fender liner), took apart, exposing the circuit board and 2 sanyo lithium 3 volt 1800 ah batteries (cr17335)soldered to board. I was not able to source exact replacement batteries that have the correct pins on them. But a good battery shop (like Batteries Plus stores) have the tech wherewithal and tools to solder on a new set. Cost me 40$ total. The batteries themselves, without the tabs spot welded on them cost 10-15 $ each, so I did not mind paying 40$ for the whole thing. Now I just have to put back in car. I have read here the newer models unit is sealed, precluding this type of repair=$$$$. I would still give it a shot to cut open, surely nothing to lose. Regards, Tom S.
