replacing a turbo

It looks like the turbo on my 99 9-5 2.3t has gone south. I’ve played around a lot with older cars, can do a lot of the basic stuff and have even pulled and rebuilt a couple of engines in my day. However all of this was on older cars and I have never worked with one that had a turbo. Is replacing or rebuilding a turbo something that I could likely do on my own, or does it require special skills and tools? Also if I attempt doing this myself, is there anything special in addition that I should do? Since it is burning oil, I plan to replace the oil and filter, but is there anything else I should be aware of and might need to change or replace?
