Since the crank sensor is such a known failure on the V6 I wouldn't be too unhappy that it was replaced, even though it might not have cured the problem this time.
If the technician didn't see or feel any problems he might have tried with what's most common just to see if it would help.
Does the check engine light come on and is there any fault codes stored in the system?
Yes it could be an IDM problem even though it doesn't sound like a clearcut case of that. Your 2000 V6 is not included in the recall. Only 2001 V6. But now the price have come down of the IDMs so it is not a bad idea to consider replacing them as a precautionary measure just like the crank sensor.
It could also be a throttle body that is gunked up or starting to go bad. Cleaning out the throttle body with carb cleaner would be a good approch to start with.
Checking for software updates would be good too, to see if your 2000 have the latest software that includes a fix for when the trottle body start to get old.
