I assume it is an EVAP leak code that triggers the check engine light?
It can be so many things that is creating the leak and a cracked gas tank is one of them.
A cracked vacuum hose around the throttle body area or a sticking EVAP purge valve could other reasons.
Without some serious fault tracing and knowledge about the system it can be difficult to find.
This is why I just recently purchased a "smoke machine" for $2000.00
With that one I can connect a hose from the machine to the cars EVAP system and pump the lines full of smoke and hopefully, where the smoke pours out, that's where the leak is.
