Just picked up a 1999 SE for my daughter who turns 16 today.
Automatic and 4-cylinder, 88,000 miles, tan leather.
It's the light green (the color she really wanted), exactly how does SAAB refer to that color?
I had to go (through eBay) all the way from Fort Wayne, Indiana to East Providence to get it, SAAB's are very rare around here. Now if you want a pick-up, yee-haw, we got plenty of those. Checked the oil at dealer before signing on the dotted line, saw that it was over the plastic, saw a new filter, figured that it would be OK. About 20 miles up 144, dropped down a gear to engine brake down a decline, and oil light came on. Pulled off, stopped and restared engine, the light was off. Doesn't engine braking increase crankcase pressure? In hindsight, certainly not enough to affect oil pressure sending unit, but I was hoping that maybe being combined with slight overfill.....
Continued north, a few miles from I-90, light comes back on. Pull off, check oil level again, looking more closely, and it's about 1/2" up the rod above the plastic. Find out there's a quickie lube 1/2 mile away, take it there and even though they don't think high oil level is the problem, I ask them to humor me and drain some off. They lift it up, drain some, lower, check, still too high. Repeat, get it right. They weren't sure, but though 3-4 quarts over. Paid them $10, and drove 800+ miles home, never saw the light again.
Probably, the crankshaft foamed the oil up, causing the oil light. Thankfully, the dealer put less than 12 miles on the car, the engine sounds good and pulls good.
whew.
Wish me luck with the car, and with the new driver.
