Hi Guys,
My 2000 9-5 2.0l LPT with 75k miles has smoky turbo syndrome, and needs either a refurbished or new unit, or the old unit stripped and refurbished. It still works and gives good boost, but often emits huge clouds of blue smoke on start up. I have replaced all of the crankcase ventilation pipes, and the pcv check valve in the last two months.
I can get the unit refurbed for a minumum of £200 plus tax, £235 UK, or around $450 US, possibly more if they find further problems when the unit is in bits.
I have the chance to buy a brand new unit for £250, not much more than the cost of the basic rebuild, but I am unsure how to check that the unit offered is the right one.
The text below is cut and pasted from the ad for the unit, does anyone know how to check the part number on my car against those listed below
"Brand new Garret turbocharger for a Saab 93 / 95. These are a very common failure item and very expensive from a Saab dealer. The part numbers for this item are - 452204-0001 OR 3 OR 4 OR 5 and Saab part number 9172123 or 5955703 or 5955704. It will fit some of the following applications-
Saab 9 5, 150BHP, 2.0L , 19997 - 2002
Saab 9 5, 170BHP, 2.3L , 1997 - 2002
Saab 9 3 150BHP , 2.0L , 2002 - 2004
Please remeber to check your old unit, or speak to a Saab dealer to make sure the part number is what you require ! The Garret part number is 452204-0001 OR 3 OR 4 OR 5, and the Saab part number is 9172123 5955703 or 5955704.
You will need to get any seals / gaskets from a Saab dealer. I will supply a brand new Garret turbo in a genuine Garret box, and fitting instructions".
Help please, hoping to get this done at the weekend so any help appreciated.
