I have a couple questions about the PCV on my 2001 V6. I am getting that big puff of blue smoke at start up and am just trying to run through everything before I jump to the conclusion that it is an expensive turbo problem. I went in and looked around, the PCV Valve seems to be okay I did the suck/blow test which someone mentioned in a previous post. The hoses were caked in dried oil on the inside so I broke out the craft cabinet and cleaned them a bit with pipe cleaners. When I took the hose that goes from the PCV valve to the rear crank case off it was cracked where it goes onto the nipple but not all the way through. Also, there was dried oil all around where it goes into the crank case. (See picture below). I am planning on purchasing new hoses and a new valve from thesaabsite.com soon to replace the cracked hose. I put a link at the bottom for this page. Does the hose labeled #4 run from the back cylinder bank to the front or something? I didn't really notice anything that looked like that in my engine compartment. Is there a specific procedure for cleaning the PCV system that I can do at home? I am dropping off my car at the dealer in about 45 minutes to have a FREE (my favorite 4 letter word) catalytic converter put in tomorrow from a DIC failure a while back). Should I call them and tell them to do a PCV cleaning too? I heard that high mileage cars tend to get dirt in the PCV system and they get plugged up. With 160,000 miles my car qualifies. It is quite possible it is the turbo failing as well seeing as it is still the original. I have also been noticing a huge whistle when I accelerate with the windows open. Does this have anything to do with possible turbo failure?
The problem started right after I bought it from a friend, knowing that there were some problems so I don't need to complain to him about selling me a lemon. It was sitting for about 4 months because he had gotten a new car, and when I drove it a lot of moisture came to the bottom of the oil cap making that coffee colored gooze. It went away after wiping it off a few times. Could this have gotten into the PCV system? Also, not good, but unbenounced to me, the change oil sticker in the windshield was when it was supposed to be changed, not when it was changed. So we went about 3,000 miles more than we were supposed to. We didn't get much oil out of it when we finally changed it. This could also cause these kinds of problems, right.
Okay, I will shut up now.
Thank you all in advance. I have learned so much so far from this forum.
