Why MXV4 is OE for many cars

I hypothesize two reasons for why the MXV4 is OE for many cars:
a.) the tire is designed for maximum fuel efficiency. This helps the car get high MPG figures for the window sticker. Often automakers are more interested in fuel efficiency of the tire than anything else. (At these gas prices, I can't blame a person for wanting the most fuel efficient tire.)
b.) Michelin gives them away.
What Michelin does is pretty smart. The tire isn't all that expensive to make (since it's an older design.) What they do is give them away to automakers and hope that the person who owns the car just replaces them with the same tire once they're worn down. (Overall, I suspect this is a fairly strong effect.) Michelin gets its profitability the second (third, fourth, nth) time that MXV4s end up on the car, not the first time.
This all makes sense in the context of the MXV4 versus the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. The latter is a superior tire in every way, and, yet, is the same cost as the MXV4. (The UTQG for the MXV4 is 340AA and 400AA for the Pilot Exalto A/S. According to that, the Pilot Exalto should last longer.) The Pilot Exalto A/S doesn't appear to be OE on any car yet--probably because they're too expensive for the automaker.
I was pretty harsh in my first post, and I'm backing off on that a bit. Many are satisified, but it seems overall that there is a lot better out there--even from Michelin itself, for the same cost.
