use a high quality tool, whether its torx or allen

If it's allen, it will be metric allen not inch. soak the screw with wd-40, dry the recess throughly, like by using a fast evaaporating solvent spray to get the oil out, and when you turn counterclockwise, press in hard so the tool can't jump out. I did ruin one recess by letting it slip.
On replacement, put anti-seize on the screw. No need to have it be hard tight, because it can't unscrew with the rim over it.
If the big bolts holding the caliper need female torx, ("e" sizes for external) buy a high quality socket or set, 1/2" drive, and the longest breaker bar you can get your hands on. They are a bear to break loose.
