Recently the vehicle has been experiencing a significant loss in power compared to when the vehicle was new, going on the sounds and performance I was tempted to think that the turbo may be on its way out after being told a turbo's realistic lifespan would be 100-150k miles. Today we were driving on the motorway up a (very) gentle incline in 5th gear at 70-75mph when the engine sound changed dramatically. It sounded lower and even as if one of the cylinders wasnt firing. There was an unbalanced 'feel' through the steering and the vehicle slowly decelerated, it was required to change down to 4th to maintain speed. We pulled over at a lay-by to see if there was anything visibly wrong. I noticed that the front wheels, (especially the front left) was extremly hot, far hotter than normal and considering the only time the brakes were used in the last 10 minutes was to stop the car in the lay-by, it was very strange. This has lead me to believe that the car is riding the brakes, this would explain the deceleration when this problem occured and how when the turbo kicked when I changed down to 4th, the car accelerated, overcoming the small braking force. The main questions in my mind is why has this problem occured out of the blue, and why is it an intermittant problem rather than a constant problem? I hope all that made sense and would really appreciate any feedback if anyone has experienced the same symptoms.
