Well, I got the car back today and here's what was fixed:
A fluid leak which was causing the bottom of my gear box & oil pan to be wet, was traced to a oil pressure sensor which was going bad - SENSOR REPLACED
A headlight wiper which didn't always return to the home position - MOTOR REPLACED
Headlights were intermident - Orange Headlight Relay REPLACED
Hood Emlem was pealing - REPLACED
DIC Recall - Mine was checked - the serial # on mine showed it was not subject to recall. This was expected as mine died about a year ago and was already replaced.
Paint Cracks in C-Pillar: The dealership said this was not considered a warranty item and did not attempt to fix. These paint cracks had previously been 'fixed' by another dealership. Whatever. I've read it won't rust and there's enough dings in the car and this is the least noticable flaw in the entire care.
I complained about a poorly performing AC system. I was told that given the age/miles of my car (6years,90K) that I probably need an AC recharge at a cost of $150. I asked them if they checked the system's pressure right now, so I wouldn't go off charging up a potentially bad system, but they didn't do any detailed diagnostics. I'm not totally satisfied with this response - I would figure if the vehicle was under warranty they'd have a better reply. Oh well. The AC does work, but once the temperature gets past the high 80's the system has a hard time keeping up. :( I've read 9-5's dont' have great AC.
An awful noise I heard only once a week ago, from the power steering area of the car (probably belt related) was not able to be reproduced - nothing done. The car made noise only once - I can't fault the dealership for this. They checked out the area and couldn't find anything. I'm sure this will bite me a month from now. Oh well. At least it was documented before the warranty expired and maybe Saab USA will take pity on me if something goes wrong soon.
I asked the dealer to quote me the cost to replace my air filter intake pipe with the new part #. The replied with $120 but said I wouldn't get any performance out of it anyway. For cost reasons, I figured I'd do it myself at a later date. While they were in the area they did find two broken air filter housing mounts. I need to replace these soon I suppose. Kinda odd. When I go do my 90K service in a couple weeks, I'll write down that part # and do that myself. The dealer wasn't going to replace under warranty.
That about sums up the trip to the dealership. This time is was $0. I really wish the labor rates weren't so high there. I would love to have the dealership do my regular maintenance but when they quote $700 for the 90K service, I simply can't see spending that amount of money when nothing is even broken. I'll be visiting a site sponsor soon to do most of the 90K service myself.
Cheers,
KevinH
