Failed Smog... High HC's (long)

Horror of horror - Today my 2000 SE v6 failed CA smog.
Car has 84k on the odomotoer, and passed everywhere but the high-RPM (25mph) HC measure. I would apprciate any comments or ideas before I pay my mechanic $200 to diagnose the issue...
In the HC measurement, here is the report:
15mph (max) 49 (meas) 42
25mph (max) 33 (meas) 71 (!)
Where should I be looking here? the most recent repair - I recently replaced one of the DI cassettes after it failed. Given the serious failure - more than double the allowed amount... I am a little concerned...
He measured the "fuel trim" what ever that is - it is was .997 - he said the normal is 1.0 - so that is pretty close to normal...
Timing? Plugs? (seems to be running fine) Fuel injectors? Bad Cat?
Everything else passed, although the NO was higher than average; but no where near the max... the CO% was very low... very normal...
Any help would be beneficial.
