Instructions for removal Posted by Johnson [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: For Rusell in Falls Church..., Johnson ![]() |
The first thing I would do is to make sure you have the right size sockets, I had to go and buy a set with an 18mm and a 16mm. I also got a torque wrench while I was at it. I have a set of Rihno ramps.(a god send in my opinion). I only replaced the top mount, hoping to halfass the work, because I do not want to replace the other ones. So:
1) I drove my car up on the ramps to get me clearance underneith to:
2) Use my hydroic jack with a piece of wood on the oil pan to push up on the engine. While lifting up on the engine it lifed the whole font end of the car, so I did not lift it to high to take the pressure off of the wheels completly.
3) I then removed the 4 bolts (size 16mm) that attach the U arm to the top of the engine, and the 1 smaller bolt (size 11mm) keeping something on there, not quite sure what hose it was, but it was hooked on none the less.
4) I then removed the larger bolt(size 18mm) connecting the U arm to the mount, this was the hardest bolt to remove, I actually had to get a peice of pipe on the end of my wrench for leverage to get it off. The lug bold wrench makes a good peice of pipe for this, and pulled the U arm out.
5) I then removed the 3 bolts (size 13) retaining the mount. when I got the mount out, it had a lot of play in it, smelt like burt oil, and was leaking fluid all over the place. might explain the drip I have had recently...
At this point my pizza and wings were delivered so I took a break, baby sat my niece for a couple of hours, and then when my sister came to pick her up I headed out to the dealership to pick up the replacement. I know I paid more for it than I should have, but I really needed it today, and could not wait. I just wish places around here stocked more saab parts... oh well that is life.
Then when I got home I repeated steps 5-1 backwards, but this time I used a torque wrench to get stuff nice and tight, without killing it all. The actual work took less than 45 min, maybe it would have taken 30 if I had known I needed the difference sizes of sockests before I started. sorry no pics, but this is a really easy one because it is all in one place.
