Need help with trim clips.... sound deadening II

So everything rear of the uh....rear doors is gutted, wires and bare metal as far as the eye can see. I took pictures and will post the entire procedure when done, however, I have a question;
In order to remove the flap that covers the spare tire compartment I had to tug it free. The far end of this fabric was attached to the floor (where rear of seats meet the trunk floor) using four or five clips. These clips are the same type that can be found on the trunk lid (center).
I tugged, clip tops are soft and the tops inverted (think umbrella on a windy day) allowing the fabric to come free. How do I get these out? They do not have a center "release", I need to put the carpet down and then snap them in over it. Same goes for the trunk lid; I can't get the carpet covering off because of the two clips in the center. Any ideas are very much appreciated!!
I don't have a lot of sunlight to work with after work. Yesterday I gutted the trunk, removed rear seats, headrests and parcel shelf before it got dark outside. Today I want to pre the surface, apply dampener to the trunk and - if time allows - reapply carpeting. The rear parcel shelf is a major source of rattles and I'm going to pay special attention to that part Saturday morning.
