Here's what I did - wasn't bad at all:
- Placed car on jackstands (nose in air)
- Loosened top engine mount (one big nut on yoke type mount)
- Remove bottom fenderliner from passenger side (8mm bolts)
- With wood block to cushion, use floor jack to lift trans/engine a bit from the transmission side (can lift about an inch without problem)
- Loosened exhaust downpipe enough to move it to side (three 10mm bolts on turbo, two on rest of pipe 13mm - hit these with penetrating oil the night before you do the job to make it easy. I had to disconnect the front 02 sensor plug to give room to swing pipe around)
- Drain oil
- Remove two small bolts from flywheel cover, remove metal cover to access oil pan bolts (side of transmission)
- Remove oil pan bolts (13mm I think - most are easy but you'll need a wrench for a couple of limited access ones on the side facing passenger
- Drop pan (make sure you have all the bolts out!)
- To get at screen you'll have to remove baffle in oil pan bottom (four screws, I think T30, then two more to get screen/feedpipe out)
- Gasoline makes a great solvent to clean any residue
- Reinstall: no gasket needed, Saab recommends Loctite 518 as a gasket maker. Hard to source here in Phoenix, may want to order online. I ended up using not this exact material - but something similar that appears to be working fine.

I hope this helps, for a little elbow grease I feel better about the engine...

Good Luck,

Scott
