I thought this might help those of you with 9-5 Aeros. I have a 2003 9-5 Aero.

I recently went throught the information mill here and on other boards and couldn't find any info on easyily replacing the factory stereo with an aftermarket unit that ran an iPod.

I wanted an Alpine 9856 or 9857 so I could seamlessly use my iPod and control it through the head unit. I wanted steering wheel controls and I wasn't going to replace speakers, amp, or anything else. It had to be easy.

This is what I found and it works beautifully:
1. Alpine 9857 w/iPod cable from Crutchfield.
2. Wiring harness sent from Crutchfield worked perfectly.
3. PAC_ALP Steering wheel adapter.
4. Soundgate XR4 interface adapter.
5. Saab DIN adapter for the dash (from genuinesaab.com).

Rolling Thunder in San Rafael, CA installed the unit and it is perfect. They were the only outfit in a 15 mi. radius that said they can absolutely do this. Five other installers, including Best Buy, said that newer Saabs are impossible and they won't even touch them.

Rolling Thunder was easy about it all and just got in there and made it work. They had to make a face plate for the Alpine in the Saab DIN adapter but it took no time. They tuned the system as much as they could and I couldn't be happier. My speakers even sound better.

NOTE: The PAC_ALP didn't work due to a voltage issue but they are working n the solution with PAC. BTW, PAC lists my car and the Alpine 9857 as a setup their unit works with perfectly. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

As soon as the Alpine Blue Tooth adapter comes out in mid to late '06 I'll have that installed and then the phone, stero and iPod will all work seamlessly throught the Alpine. Beautiful!!

It's that easy.

I hope this helps.

Jan
