It alters the ratio of gas pedal movement to throttle plate movement. In Sport mode a, say, 25% displacement of the pedal will produce a larger amount of throttle opening than would have occurred in Normal mode. Acceleration at max pedal displacement (flooring it) is no different in Norm or Sport. Sport "feels" faster at lesser pedal depression. Some have said it alters shift points, but I can detect no difference.
You'll note the guys at Aero Academy don't care one way or the other. I always use Sport 'cause it's just more fun.
