First, there are two types of noted irrgularities with the Xenon system;

1- Bulbs stay lit but intensity "flickers"; the bulb never goes dark but a faint flicker can be seen on bumpers and walls at close distance. When your bulbs start to go they tend to flicker most of the time you just don't notice it unless you pull up to a car at a stop light or wall (2-3 feet or so)...

2-Bulbs flicker or "storbe" where they cycle from on to off in bursts. This is observed when putting into park, or pulling out of a spot.

Now, my old bulbs have exhibited behavior (1) and (2) prior to swap. Post swap I no longer have (1) but I am still plauged by (2) *although* not nearly as fequently as before.

Also, I was under the impression that the ballast, aside from delivering a high current at startup, controls voltage and supplies a steady current to the bulb while in operation. No?

I have read that turning the bulbs on and off without proper cooldown procedure reduces the life of the bulbs; so don't sit there playing with the switch. I have now gotten in the habit of turning my bulbs manually on AFTER firing up the engine, I'm not sure if it does anything but I didn't like the fact that the bulbs would dim as the engine cycles on auggesting voltage irregularities. These bad boys like steady and even current....

Bottom line is and as someone here mentioned previously; flickering is the begining of the end. You will be simply amazed at how much brighter your new bulbs are!!! HID only puts out 75% lumens max after 2,000 life hours. The decision to go Philips or Osram is a matter of personal preference; Philips mixture burns cooler while Osram has a warmer light.
