I bet it is plenty of cars that actually made it to 120K and the second belt replacement without a problem but those people don't post about it because the car performed just the way they expected it to do.

Those stories though doesn't help the poor souls where the belt broke after they had the dealer perform the 60K service exactly the way the service book says.

You mostly hear about the horror stories on a problem solving board.

One thing with the timing belt that we don't know about is how it was installed at 60K.
It is actually several "technicians" out there that don't know how to install and adjust the three different pulleys.

I get phone calls now and then from other shops where they ask me how to do it.
Many beleive that you are using the two idler pulleys to set the tension of the belt (which is wrong) and by that they may overtighten the belt and shorten the life of the pulley bearings.

This GM V6 belt setup is also an extremely delicate design and I don't think I have seen anything like it on any other cars where they have several pulleys that can be moved back and forth to set the belt, cam shafts and crank shaft.

I have mentioned this before.

Maybe it would be a better idea to leave the original belt alone just like in the Saturn case (some Saturn use the same engine and with a 100K replacement interval) and then when the belt is replaced, replace the whole tensioner kit every 100K instead.

That way you might take the clumsy tech syndrome out of the picture.
