9-5 key fobs, the all in one type, are notoriously weak. You have to be very close to the car to make them work. Range is seldom more than one car length at best.
You can press the remote against your chin, seriously this really works, and extend the range a little. It's the non key shaft end that's transmitting I'm told so the normal point the key at the car is backwards, point the key away from the car, point the butt of the key at the car, hold it up high too.
But basically no matter what you do the key remote range sucks. This is supposed to be a more secure way to do it providing greater security as your closer to the vehicle when it locks and unlocks and less likely to inadvertently operate the remote accidentally because of the limited range.
