I don't want to come off as ranting, or lecturing, but I don't understand many drivers' need to pull into a spot until the wheels (or something else) hits something. Go to any strip mall, or 7-11, or drug store, or anywhere parking allows 'head-in' parking up to the sidewalk. You'll inevitably see cars with their wheels pushed up against the sidewalk and the remaining front overhanging it, intruding on the walk. Then look at how much room there is at the rear of the car before they're actually approaching the driving part of the parking lot. They could've given themselves a three foot buffer and still be well in the parking space.

Learn where the corners of your car are and try to suppress the need to 'feel' your way into a spot.

Related anecdote:

My wife and I were one Friday night walking into a favorite pizza place. We had to stop as we crossed the parking lot to allow some young stud and his squeeze to wheel his spotless yellow Corvette into a prime parking spot. He actually exchanged glares with me as he cut us off as if to say 'I belong here!'.

He then proceded to 'feel' his way to the sidewalk and as he passed over the concrete wheel stop his airdam was mercilessly seperated from the car and disappeared underneath with much satisfying crunching and cracking.

Touché.
