Listen for the fuel pump running for a second at ignition on. It will not run again unless the ECU sees the signal from the CPS. If no CPS signal, the ECU does not know that the engine is cranking at all and also would otherwise not know when to fire the DI&plugs.
The fuel pump fuse gets energized by a relay that the ECU closes when it sees the CPS signal. You can check for voltage at the fuel pump fuse when cranking. If no voltage, probably the CPS. If voltage, then perhaps a bad pump. But you should know if the pump runs from step 1.
If pump not heard running from step one, check the fuse. Check ohms on output side of fuse to ground, that is the ohms thru the fuel pump motor. If high or open, pump or wiring is bad.
We have more CPS failures than pumps. But CPS failures are very much first seen at hot start, with normal operation when cold.
