I noticed that my A/C wasn't as cold on the driver's side as the passenger side, ran a diag (auto & off) and got the dreaded code 08.
When I took the servo off and inspected the assembly the stop arm is broken, but the shaft is intact. I can see the mix gate move when I rotate the shaft. However the plastic tab "keeper" for the stop arm was broken off the shaft (or broke when I removed the stop arm). Inspecting the inside of the shaft with a small mirror it appears that the missing part's only function is to hold the stop arm in place: The broken piece ends where the slots for the servo motor output shaft begin - it can't provide any structural support.
My thought is to make a bushing from a piece of PVC that would fit between the replacement stop arm and the servo motor once it's in place. It would slide over the end of the shaft and butt against the stop arm and servo housing.
My only fear is that if I put too much force on the stop arm/shaft (too long of a bushing) I will end up breaking something else inside the mix box or if I pur too little force on the stop arm that it will jump off the two tabs. However, if I'm judicious in determing the length of the busing so that it simply keeps the stop arm in place I should be OK. I may even try to fit a spring washer so that I can keep reasonable pressure on the stop arm without overloading the assembly.
Has anyone else had this failure mode? If so what did you do? Does this sound like a viable solution?
If I fail I guess the only solution would be to cut the shaft where it normally breaks and fit the aluminum repair piece from saabsite.com as it integrates the stop arm into the replacement shaft.
