I first brought my car into the dealer at about 42k with a CEL due to a bad DIC. This was in November of 2004.

Today I finally got my check from Saab USA.

Here's all I had to do to make Saab CS happy:

Go to dealer, explain problem with CEL. Get codes read (random misfire)
Told it wasn't the DIC
Go to dealer again later that week (2004). Same code. Still not the DIC.

Bought DIC from eeuroparts.com. Installed myself in driveway. Haven't had a DIC since.

Filed a complaint with SAAB USA on bad diagnosis, and failure to correct a known problem when car was only 2k miles out of warrantee.

Filed official recall with Saab.
Sent in Receipt, letter to Saab, and statement from credit card company
Saab lost it.
Sent in Reciept and letter again.
Called Saab. Got transfered to a new CS rep.
Called Saab again. Got transfered to a CS manager
Went to saab dealer to verify that DIC was installed correctly (to which the service manager said, "well you drove in here didn't you?")
Faxed letter from local saab dealer to CS manager
3 weeks later... I got my check.

So really it only took me 18 months, 3 trips to the dealer, 2 sets of letters to SAAB, and about 12 phone calls to get the recall.

Thanks SAAB, your customer service is really great. I hope you don't treat all your customers like this. It's my 3rd saab - I'm pretty loyal (all I've ever owned), but apparently that really doesn't matter much to SAAB USA.

And the best line I got from the CS rep?
"You're the first person we've ever heard of who installed the IDM themselves. That's usually a dealer install"

/end rant

Liam :-)
