I do not understand the requirement to remove the fuse and de-pressurize the fuel system. There is no accumulator in the system, so as one opens the system and a few drops discharge, the pressure will be gone. With a new newly installed filter, there would be pressurized air trapped in that and I can see how that air would allow for some concern, but that is a rare situation to be opening the system with a new filter. I wonder if this advice is a carry over from some mechanical fuel injection systems that had accumulators.
A quantity fuel will be lost, but that will happen in any case. When I changed the filter in my 95SET, there was quite a bit of fuel about. A large collection of rags or newspaper to absorb the fuel is good. Best to have the vehicle outside.
Sealing washers: Best to get new ones (4) when getting the new filter.
