Emissions Test

I recently moved from CA to CT and to register my car I needed an emissions test. Just my luck that on my way to the test center, the CEL came on. It had never come on before. I had the car tested and of course it failed. I am quite sure that this may have been caused by letting the gas tank get too low before filling up. In fact that morning, the low fuel light came on and I filled up after driving about 10 miles. The test center said to have a dealer check it out and clear the fault code then have it re-tested after a few days. The next morning, the CEL was gone and has not returned for almost 2 weeks.
Should I just take it in to have it re-tested? Or should I have the dealer look at it first? I am quite sure nothing is wrong and that it was just a mis-fire due to the gas tank getting so low. I don't want to waste my time going to the dealer then back to the test center for the free re-test. But I also don't want to take it in and have it fail again. This is a 2003 9-5 2.3lpt. From CA no less.
Thanks for any insight!
