Tim,
I own a 03 9-5 Aero with the prestige H/K setup (9 speakers) and am not sure if the audio components in the 06 are the same; my feeling is "no" since the 06 received the GM black tie audio setup. Anyhow, many on here (myself included) have swapped the corner dash speakers finding the stock H/K paper cones inadequate.

Since the H/K system was designed with this vehicle in mind odd impendances from the amp are going to each speaker and no adjustment can be made. For example the dash speakers are 2.4ohms the front doors are 2.5ohm the center is 4.7ohm the rear doors are 4 and the rears are still different; their efficiency has not published. This creates a soundstage delivering different outputs from different speakers. There lies the problem with dropping in 92db 4ohm replacements...it may disrupt the soundstage.

Still, replacements that intergrate nicely are:
-The older model Infinity Kappa speakers which are rated at 4ohms. The 2005 model is 2ohms and overpowers everything. I find their metal MMD cones to be harsh and ear piercing.
-Boston Acoustics S35 speakers also rated at 4. They have the ability to handle highs without distorting or producing ear piercing hi-hats. The boston tweeters smooth the highs and deliver a warmer sound; my choice.

Second, we need to adress the fact that some like a more well rounded bottom than what a pair 6X9's can produce. The uncontested winner is Infinity with their Basslink product. A self contained 250W amp and a 10" powered sub + a passive 10" radiator. Signal can be drawn from rear shelf, power easily routed, four screws later you're in business. Amazing, tight, clear bass with knobs at 25% of units' ability.

I have also insulated my doors and entire trunk area with vibration dampening panels -to reduce structure borne resonance - and thermo acoustic foam -to reduce the duration of airborne noise- to get the most out of the stock system. I now enjoy noticeably quieter highway crusing, zero plastic interor rattle (spent some time with the rear high mount center stop light) and tighter bass across the entire range.
The Basslink is lease-friendly as it leaves no marks; the corner speakers are a 30 minute job. You can find info on them by using the search box on this site. 'infinity kappa' or 'boston acoustics'
