It is all so simple in retrospect, but...
Around 1-2 weeks before my DIC failed and left me stranded by the side of the road (something no car I have ever owned including a 20 year old Alfa bought for $400 and driven for 5 years and 60,000km did to me) I had noticed an extremely faint 'missing' when driving up my street first thing in the morning. I thought nothing more than "yep, major service coming up, needs new plugs" or similar.
I'm pretty sure that the newer software would have 'noticed it', throwing an alarm and saving me from a very inconvenient situation. I don't wish to be down on Saab but... if a newer product exists, why not have it installed - at least on cars which are dealer serviced anyhow.
Cheers
Steve
