Red '98 V70 base wagon. Enough power to get out of the way of SUVs but not too exciting. Great brakes, decent handling for a wagon, nice seats. It seems that when Volvo redesigned the 850 to turn it into the x70 they cut a few corners with parts. The car seemed to always have some niggling problem or another to deal with - had the front turn signal sockets and bulbs replaced 3x under warranty & various recalls and service programs; it ate headlight bulbs every 6 months or so, rattle/thump in the front suspension the dealer never could get a handle on. I know there were others that I've blocked out. I found the interior not to exciting and didn't particularly like the soft-touch plastic texture Volvo chose but it was more of a personal thing. Great stereo (but not as good as my '94k CSE). On the basic mechanicals very reliable. Very high brake wear rates - the tradeoff for those great brakes. Occasionally had a problem with the rear seatbelts getting locked when the rear seat was down - "fixed" 3 separate times without much success.
Overall, not a bad choice, but for the $$ there's probably better deals on used Saabs. But its a personal choice, and I wouldn't recommend anyone not get one if they like them.
