Last week I referenced having my 2003 9-5 towed to a Saab dealership because the oil light came on while driving. Given that it started to sputter and rattle I wanted them to check it out. Not surprisingly the service receipt stated "engine needs replaced...customer refused..." (more on that later). They said it was toast due to sludge. Last night I went to retrieve it from that same dealership. I was surprised to see it parked some 200yrds from the service bays (they drove it there). While waiting for the tow truck I started it - it ideled fine. In fact, if not for a tapping noise (not very noticeable in the cabin but more so with the hood up), I wouldn't have known there was a problem. So...it doesn't sound to me like it is toast. I have the following questions:
1 - Since it is now in front of my house (and I don't want to tow it a 3rd time), can anyone offer recommendations on how I should go about cleaning it myself (please be specific (ie. use 4qts of this for X time followed by...)). 2 - Since my service receipt stated the engine needs to be replaced - is that now a permanent part of the cars history? Should I fix this and unload it for another one? And 3 - The idiot lights are still on when I turn the key - they disappear when I start the car. Can the computer be reset simply by disconnecting a battery lead or do I have to have Saab do that? Thanks to all in advance for replying. This board has been extremely informative. Cheers!
