Techron will not reach the area of the EVAP purge valve. So your best bet is to remove the valve and clean it or replace it. I don't clean them due to that it doesn't work long term, but I replace them instead.
These valves are of extremly low quality and we see lots of problems with them on both Saabs and Volvos from 96 and up.
Before 96 it was not any monitoring system installed in the cars so you didn't know if the EVAP system was working or not, but from 96 and up they got it all figured out.
It is also no rhyme and reason for the pricing of the EVAP purge valve since one valve for a certain Volvo is $21.00 retail and another for a Saab is $64.00 and the one for the 9-3/9-5 is $163.00.
They look almost the same and they sure perform the same work but are not interchangeable.
