Exhaust system replaced.

My 2002 Saab Arc with 49K miles had a hole in the rear muffler the size of an eraser on the end of a pencil. I took it to the Dealer and they said the center muffler was also perforated. Under the 4/50K warranty, they replaced the exhaust system from the catalyst back. Totally awesome! I have no idea why the exhaust system only lasted 4 years? Is there anything preventative that can be done to make it last longer? They told me just for the parts, without labor, was $840.00! My 1993 Chrysler has the original exhaust system and it's still in good shape. But the Chrysler has a drain-hole at the lowest point of the muffler to let the condensation run out. I don't see any drain-holes in the SAAB exhaust system. A huge thanks to Kuni Cadillac-SAAB. They did a great job on my warranty work. I also had a 4-wheel alignment and the car now tracks better than it ever has.
