Oil sludge and how to check, posted over and over again

Just drop the pan, don't do any "short cuts" or screw around with any other jerry-rig type analysis. Just drop the pan.
I get so annoyed when I see other posters get all pissed off and type up how people cut corners by never changing the oil or properly maintaining the vehicle until it is too late and then in the mean time, the same person who is complaining offers "short cuts" to check for a potentially serious and expensive problem.
I just bought a beautiful 2003 9-5 Aero with 59k miles and with all the major service records but no records of oil changes in between. So I had my local Saab dealer drop the pan, they let me come in and take pictures of the screen and I bought the car with a warm fuzzy feeling. The screen had just a little bit of crap on it which was acceptable for the mileage and the dealer charged me $240.00 and I now have in my records with SAAB "Customer requests oil pan R&R and oil pick up screen inspected. Oil screen inspected, bottom of engine inspected and found to be in excellent condition." and signed by the Saab tech. So I have a record of this now.
It is worth every penny to have the pan dropped.
Enjoy!
