I own a 2004 9-5 ARC sedan with the HK audio system. (AS3)
I am considering replacing the head unit with one of the Pioneer 2 DIN AV NAV receivers as a way of killing 2+ birds with one stone.
* To integrate my Bluetooth cell phone into audio system:
For some reason my car did not come with the telephone prewiring... rendering the Motorola Bluetooth handsfree kit I bought incompatible. I could have a local installer put in a Parrot kit for $200-$300.
* To get XM radio without using an XM-Commander FM modulator type receiver (or equiv.)
* To play MP3s ... using MP3 CDs or an iPod with the D2 model... or MP3 CDs/DVDs, an iPod, or 10GB of internal storage on the Z1.
* To get an in-dash NAV system.
While the top of the line Z1 model would be ideal, it costs $2,000+. The D2 model is probably a better deal... it costs about $1400 and Pioneer is running a promotion until Oct. 1st throwing in free installation (up to $200) and one of the AVIC-S1 portable NAV units (which I could give to my wife to use in her Acura MDX). Those prices don't include options: adapter to use the 9-5 steering wheel controls($50), XM radio Module ($200), BlueTooth Handsfee Module ($100).
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has (or has considered) these units. How easy are they to install if I decide to do it myself? Will the audio performance be equal or better compared to the stock AS3 head unit?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
