Funny how folks will consider spending more than the simple tax and license, forget the price of the car, to replace their 6 year old highline car when it has a couple of hiccups.
BTW are those dealer prices or independent prices? Sounds like dealer prices, find a good independent.
I'm always dubious of a leak diagnosis. New car dealers are always "clean and dry" folks. That is the slightest weep or seep and they wanna' start replacing things. Independents will generally advise you of weeping and seeping problems and keep an eye on them to see if they actually cross the line and become full fledged leaks. A dealer just wants to sell the job and has no conscious or urge to try and save you money as eventually they know you'll get tired of the high prices and go elsewhere, you're at the end of the relationship. An indy wants to retain you for the long term and most resist overselling.
No I wouldn't say it's typical, not unusual mind you for any 6 year old highline car, but not typical of a Saab 9-5. My 2000 with 80k hasn't had any of those issues, SID replacement and a CPS, cranckshaft position sensor, has been it.
