My Wife's 1999 Mercury Mountaineer had the Firestone tires that were recalled. We went to Les Schwab in Beaverton (Canyan Road) for warranty tires they offered for $80.00 under the recall program. The new SXT tires they installed took lots of weights to get them balanced. The weights ranged as high as 5 ounces per wheel. We complained and I finally called the manufacturer of the tires and was told the tires they sell to Les Schwab our safe but don't meet their standards so are considered "seconds" by the manufacturer. So we fought with shimmy and vibration for 35,000 miles and gave up. But worse is what happened. We got a flat on the side of the highway and I went to change the tire. One of the lug nuts was cross-threaded so I couldn't get the wheel off! We were stuck in the rain trying to remove the wheel. I finally got roadside assistance (AAA) and they chiseled the lug off. We then went to Les Scwab and was told they didn't do it, even though they were the only ones to sevvice the tires since the vehicle was new. Then I had the tires rotated by them on my Chrysler and I found out when doing the front brakes, one stud for the lug was stripped out and the other side had a missing lug. I complained again and they said they didn't do it. We thought we would forgive them and try again until we stopped to help a stranded motorist. It was a young Lady that just had alll new tires put on her vehicle. She pulled over because of a horrible noise. What I found is Les Schwab forgot to tighten the wheel lugs so the wheel were clanking down the road. They just seem to stamp out in numbers and take little pride in their work. Many people don't know when Les Scwab messes up because they don't check their work after they get their car back
