My story was posted on this BB previously, but here's a summary.
Purchased a used, out-of-warranty (by time) 2002 Aero wagon w/ 5-sp in late June with under 32K.
Oil pressure light came on after 300 miles.
Towed to nearest dealer - Engine required rebuilding head, new short block, new turbo. Quoted price was, ahem, obscene.
Saab USA initially denied coverage citing gaps in oil change history per their records.
Towed car to closer, less expensive Saab service dealer and initiated repairs.
Tracked down original owner, obtained all remaining oil change records (still a gap).
Repairs completed - car drives great.
Negotiated with seller who agreed to cover 1/2 of repair cost as per my request.
Sent all available records to Saab USA - they are reconsidering case and have contacted me several times for clarification. Even so, I don't have high hopes that they will cover it (hence negotiated agreement with seller).
According to original owner, there was no indication of problems. One gap in oil changes at 8-10K range followed by regular synth or semi-synth every 4-5K for 4 years.
Pulling the VC prior to purchase would have saved this heartache, but hindsight is 20/20 and the seller was 2 states away. Lesson learned.
