'02 Saab 9 5 windshield and sticker placement

I'm a new Saab owner (hooray)--bought an '02 9-5 Linear just over a month ago and am still looking for excuses to take a drive. But I digress.
Being associated with the Department of Defense, it's time to put the darned DoD sticker on the windshield. I'm not sure whether I should go with the primary placement, which is center/top of the windshield (right about at the rear view mirror, basically), or the alternate, which is lower left driver's side--used when you can't put the sticker in the primary place for some reason: which brings me to my question.
I don't have the automatic rain sensing wipers. However, I do note that there is a very pronouced downward bulge in the black border around the windshield that dips down at the center/top conforming, basically, to the rear view mirror area. I'm wondering if whether or not there is something in the windshield there that I shouldn't cover up with a sticker.
I suspect that it's just some sort of black out feature to assist with seeing the rear view mirror, but would like to know a bit more for certain if possible.
Best,
Ed M
