Based upon your description of symptoms...
One or possibly both of the shocks for the trunk lid are bad...and should be replaced.
The greater likelihood is that only ONE of the shocks are bad. Both must be functional in order for the lid to stay open. To determine this....
1) Procure one replacement shock (Source: Goldwing, English Swedish Spares, or new from eEuroparts)
2) Brace lid open with stick
3) Remove one shock. Collapse by hand...if you can and it stays collapsed you've found the bad one. If it's good it will be very hard to collapse. Replace with new shock.
4) Retest lid to see that it will stay open. If you still have the problem testing will probably show the other shock to be bad.
