75MPH going down a steep grade, dry or otherwise! You just don't get good traction. So it could have been the traction control unit. Was the engine revving high, too, thus giving you the impression that it wanted to accelerate when it was only trying to slow down the car/wheels? Since you're fast gathering speed, the cruise-control will also go down the gear(s) and try to maintain the cruising speed (or restrict going any faster). But, why didn't the cruise-control get de-activated when you put the car in neutral?
Excessive brake dust seems to be normal.
