Here’s the skinny…

2004 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon.
36,000 miles approximate.
Laser Red exterior color. Black interior.

5-speed manual transmission.
No extra options. (according to dealer)
Saab Certified with a 6-year / 100,000 mile warranty from the original in-service date. (dealers words…CPO to me)

Price: $24,000. (dealer initial quote via email correspondence)

I’ve done some checking at Edmunds and KBB and this seems to be low for a CPO’d vehicle…though given this is the first offer from the dealer without any range or indications from my end, I’m figuring there must be room to work. Is 22,500 too low of an offer? Do you think I’ll have to come up much from there? I’m also hoping to use the low Saab CPO financing (if it’s still available…hope?!).

The dealer has told me the car was purchased from Saab, that it was originally leased from their dealership, but has not yet arrived on their lot yet (coming in via truck). I’m assuming they did the original lease on the car and the prior owner was bought out of the lease and returned it elsewhere and by luck it happens to be coming back to the original dealer.

Obviously I haven’t seen the vehicle yet but hope to soon. This is a bit of a long distance transaction for me but I plan on seeing (and driving) the vehicle prior to purchasing (if it gets to that).

Any advice on the price/negot. room? Are there things to look for? Based on what I’ve read so far, DIC and sludge issues shouldn’t be a problem on this model year. New tires, brakes maybe? Do you think it’s still a good idea to ask for all service records even if it’s CPO’d.

OH! Do you think I should have it checked by an Indy even though it’s CPO’d.

All thoughts are much appreciated and I really value all your comments. I’ve learned an incredible amount reading these BB’s and enjoy the wealth of knowledge on TSN! If this works out, this will be our first Saab!

Thanks in advance!
Nate
