I may be coming to the same process. I think the thinking for most people has been that it is worth a try. If you screw it up, you get the $300 factory new one; so you don't lose in any case. Are most of us with 2001 and old cars now seeing this and having this problem? Is it me, or is this a stupid design. When those batteries get low, why in the world would the car be designed to have the alarm go off?? Doesn't that run down the batteries even more?? Why not a chirp now and then like a dying smoke detector? And then, why all the solder and sealed stuff--you know you are going to have to replace it so why make it so damn hard to work on? Yes, so they can make money. But you know, a quality car doesn't have to be designed that way.
Has anyone had the alarm go off intermittently, or have the Service Theft Alarm, and then had the problem go away for substantial time?? Does it almost always continue to get worse??
