The turbo V-6 is made by Vauxhall in England. It's an unusual 54 degree angle "V". It's an interference engine that uses a cam belt. There have been some issues with the cam belt tensioner and idlers which if they fail, causes catastrophic engine damage. SAAB pays for the belt replacement at 60K miles but you need to pay for the tensioner and idler. So at 60K, you will have to pay around $550 or so? I like the V-6 engine and that's what I personally own. No sludging issues! The Trionic emissions system is amazing. The vehicle will run on 87 octane but recommends premium. No pinging with 87, just a reduction in power under heavy throttle. CPO kicks in after the 4/50K factory warranty expires. Then CPO is good for 6 year/100K miles from the original in-service date (2 years past the factory warranty). My 2002 Arc Sedan I bought used with CPO. I had a rough start with a turbo failure, water pump, SID, exhaust, ACC, throttle body. But, the Dealer has treated me really great. I love my 2002 Arc. It's the only car I've had in years that I truely love to drive. I can't wait to jump in and go somewhere. The Arc is more of a luxury SAAB versus Sporty like the Aero. An awesome car, however. I think the price is close. I paid $16K for mine last February with 45K miles. The car had a few battle scars (scrapes on front bumper and 3 door dings). It was on SAAB Dealer Auction and I bascically bought it at their listing price. They wanted it gone. Mine is also silver. Red has less value. I think you should jump as 2003 is probably SAAB's best year. The Arc is the top-of-the-line. Hopefully it has Xenons, sonar reverse, memory seats, rain-sensing wipers. They were all part of a package.
