I suspect the turbo as well. Yesterday, I took our 2001 9-5 wagon 2.3 4 cylinder with 56K miles to the dealer with the same symptoms. It has been smoking since around 50K miles. I wanted it taken care of before the warranty expired. Dealer calls me back and says "Yup, turbo seal gone. There replacing the turbo today. Don't know why they can't just replace the seal. Very expensive job, but still on warranty. I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30 since 36K miles. Saab definitely has a turbo problem on later year models. I have a 1991 900 SE turbo convertible with original turbo and 81K miles with no smoke. Saab must have changed turbo manufacturers.
You probably could still drive the car without causing further damage and buy more time before replacement. You would just have to put up with the oil consumption.
