Odd whining sound (longish)

Okay, I've developed an odd whine which is somewhat inconsistent and before I take it to the shop I'd like to know if someone has had same thing. I have a 2001 9-5 Aero, not 61k miles, all routine services performed. Here's the situation: Within 60 to 90 seconds after starting, the sound from the turbo takes on a lower tone. This is especially acute in cooler, damp weather. Everything else seems to run fine. Doesn't seem to affect performance overall, and with time the tone reverts to the normal turbo whine that I've always heard. Sometimes when turning the wheels the whine is louder. As I say, at somepoint after the car has been running for a while the sound abates. (My work commute is 10 miles roundtrip, but I generally have to make some trips each month that are several hundred miles roundtrip) I've wondered if it could be a belt, a filter, a pump acting up, something in the turbo, first sign of oil sludge, I don't know. Anyone come up with anything similar in their experience?
