Swedecar,
I dropped off a WIS printout at my indy earlier today, just got around to calling him. The bushing that failed is identified by the WIS as one of the six that anrchor the subframe to the body. Two are really bad and the other four are fine. We reviewed the procedure to replace these and it involves dropping the entire subframe, lowering the engine and tranny on a special jack all told some eight hours of labor...
They lubraicated and packed grease wherever applicalbe and I should be fine for three to six months but this problem will have to eventually be rectified as the frame starts to beat the body (metal on metal) and the subframe will be able to torque due to the failure on two connection points.
I called two Saab dealerhsips and spoke to a tech and a knowledgeable service writer who put me on with a tech. Neither one could believe this bushing could go bad and neither ever did a job like this on a 9-5. One mentioned that he did that job on a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire but that's a 10 y/o pontiac.....
My indy believes this is due to the fact that they stopped using good german rubber in these bushings and started going with the lowest cost suppliers.....
I'm considering pursing a claim with Saab USA for this failure and ask that they go 50/50 on the labor. What do you think?
