lack of service records is a bit risky. Can you find the original owner amd maybe talk to him?
The I4 engine is suseptable to sludge but higher mileage is actually a good thing here, and reduced your risk. By all means, have your mech check it for sludge. there are varying opinions on how to check for sludge. Some say drop the pan, others pull the VC, others seem content to poke around through the oil drain hole with coat hanger. read up on the sludge posts here to do what is comfortable/affordable for you.
get an IRIS report, there are folks on this board who can do that for you, and I beleive that most Saab dealers will do it as a courtesy (YMMV).
at 79k you wull want to make sure that the 60k service was done. it is a pricey service if you dont DIY.
You have options for the SID: DIY will take all of 30 minutes, and it may or may not last ($0). You can ship it off to a the guy who advertises in the "parts classifieds" (~$100). or you can buy new (~$350)
79k is nothing for these cars, but you are in the zone for a few maintenance things: consider that you may be due for shocks, throttle body, turbo seals (look for smoke at start up)
It sounds like a great deal. good luck with it!
