No it's actually the other way around.
The 4 cyl with the small pre cat will almost always go bad if the IDM dies during highspeed cruising due to that the coils stop firing the plugs but gasolin is still passed through the engine and into the glowing pre cat.
The V6 cat is further down the header pipe and bigger and since one bank is still running, the flames from that bank will be able to burn up the extra gasolin that is passed through the dead cylinder bank.
I think it also depends on which IDM that dies on a V6, the rear is closer to cat than the front one.
So if the front die, the rear have an easier time to burn excess fuel coming from front bank but if the rear dies, the flames from the front will not be able to light up the gasolin from rear and it might go straight into the cat.
